Your journey begins in Marrakech, the gateway to Morocco’s south. From there, you will head west towards the Atlantic coast and the captivating seaside town of Essaouira. With its laid-back, bohemian vibe and fortified medieval medina, Essaouira blends North African, Berber, Jewish and Sub-Saharan influences in its music, food and art. Time seems to slow down as you explore its lively souks, seafront ramparts and golden beaches.

Following the coastline, we travel past Agadir, Morocco’s premier summer escape and continue to Sidi Ifni, a sleepy coastal gem with a unique colonial past and an air of nostalgic charm. The town’s Spanish heritage lingers in its architecture, while its surrounding virgin beaches and cliffs offer raw, untouched beauty. Legzira Beach is a highlight, famous for its towering rock arches shaped by the sea, like the colossal legs of stone elephants striding into the ocean.

We trade the sea breeze for desert winds and head inland. The route to Foum Zguid weaves through ever-changing scenery: from palm-fringed oases like Akka, dotted with springs and pools, to Tata, a quiet Saharan town known for its traditional crafts and warm desert hospitality.

In the heart of the desert, near M’Hamid, you will spend the night in a luxury Bedouin camp nestled among the Erg Chegaga dunes. As the sun dips behind the sand and stars blanket the sky, you will enjoy Berber rhythms around the fire. You will experience a moment of true stillness and wonder.

The next day, we venture deeper still. Crossing 250 km of remote desert tracks lined with ancient acacia trees, we arrive in Zagora, and from there continue through the lush, endless palm groves of the Draa Valley, Morocco’s largest oasis. The road winds northward to Ouarzazate, where cinematic landscapes and history collide.

A visit to the fortified village of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the backdrop to big productions such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones, is one of the journey’s final treasures. Its earthen towers rise dramatically against the sky, it is a true testament to Berber ingenuity and desert survival.

Crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, we return to the vibrant streets of Marrakech, where the journey ends. After days of winding trails, open skies and ancient silence, the hum of the city feels electric.

This is a sensory route through Morocco’s most dramatic contrasts. An adventure for the curious soul ready to leave the beaten path behind.
